Many highly qualified and experienced Internationally Educated Teachers are unable for numerous reasons to have their credentials recognized by the Ontario College of Teachers and therefore are unable to teach in the public school system. However, there are a number of other teaching or teaching related jobs to be explored, which may require a different kind of certification or specialization. Below is a list of varying possibilities. |

Private School Teachers |
|
|
Many
private schools do require teachers to have an Ontario Teaching
Certificate, however, others will consider candidates without certificates
but who are subject specialists. Teachers must have advanced written and
spoken skills in English and/or French. Private schools also have a hiring
list for Occasional Teachers and some do need Educational Assistants. |

|
Educational Assistants |
|
|
Both public schools and private schools employ educational assistants (teacher assistants) to assist the classroom teacher. The duties of an educational assistant depend on the special needs of the students. Support may be needed to address academic and/or behaviour difficulties, social and/or physical special needs. |

Multi-Cultural Liasion Officer |
|
|
Ottawa-Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO) has developed in the nineties the Multicultural Liaison Program, the aim of which is to have competent individuals from the multicultural community that can facliitate the working together of students, parents, and school staff towards shared goals.The service is to bring: a good education environment for the students, increased cultural competence for all school staff, and harmonious integration of immigrants and refugees into Canadian Society. |

English as a Second Language (ESL) and French as a Second Language (FSL) Teacher: |

|
Many opportunities exist at private language schools, community organizations and the government in these areas.
